Once again this year we invite the public to observe the various activities throughout the day. Admission each day is $3 for person or $5 for a carload. There is ample parking in and around the fairgrounds. The local 4H Group will provide food throughout the day. There will also be several vendors selling dog-related items and rescue organizations providing information on adopting a dog.
Saturday’s events include regular breed conformation (as seen at Westminster Kennel Club’s televised shows), obedience and rally trials. Rally is a popular form of obedience where the handler and dog have to complete a course set up by the judge. The Central Maine Brittany Club and the Norwegian Elkhound Minuteman Association will hold specialty shows on Saturday. Also the Bearded Collie Club of Maine will support their Beardie entries. Another special attraction will be the Puppy Extravaganza, where all puppies 6 months old to 12 months old will compete in their own respective groups for the chance of being the Best Puppy in Show. The day wraps up with Best in Show.
On Sunday regular conformation, obedience and rally resume. The Norwegian Elkhound Minuteman Association and the Bearded Collie Club of Maine will support their entries. YCKC pays tribute to the older purebred dogs with the Veterans Extravaganza. The Best Veteran (7 years old and older) in each breed gets to compete for the chance to win Best Veteran in Show that is awarded just before the Best in Show, concluding the weekend activities.
This year’s events are proudly sponsored by Wholistic Pet & Wholistic Organics, a local company providing healthy, all natural organic and holistic pet food and supplements. Not only are they providing prizes but they’re setting up a booth for the public to see their range of food and supplements. They’re also on the web at www.thewholisticpet.com.
York County Kennel Club of Maine, Inc is a not for profit organization whose goals are to protect and advance the interests of purebred dogs through AKC performance events and community education activities.
