Do you want your dog to TURN ON A DIME when you call him... spin INSTANTLY in your direction and look towards you the MOMENT you say his NAME? If so, I have JUST the GAME for you and your dog! Introduce this game to your dog as young as possible and you'll make an addict out of him.

THE SETUP: Start in a non-distracting space (a hallway at home works great) with a HUNGRY dog. Have treats and your clicker handy - the clicker makes this game even more effective and fun.

Stand in the center of the space you are working in.

1 Toss a treat down the hall to get your dog away from you. JUST as he’s finishing up the treat...

2 Say his name ONCE... only ONCE.. and the instant his head turns towards you

3 CLICK for the head turn and

4 Toss a treat in the other direction.

5 Repeat, repeat, repeat!

TIPS:

Rotate your body in the direction of the treat toss.

Make sure your dog sees the treats you are tossing. The treats need to be easily visible and quickly consumed.

Change the picture occasionally and drop a jackpot at your feet! Yeehaw!

Add some distance, start hiding, change the picture in small ways.

If you have a good retriever, use the ball as a reward from time to time.

Progression: Repeat outside with a long-line in low-distraction environments to begin with, then gradually add distractions.

HAVE FUN and STOP while you are AHEAD.

Yes, this is a wonderful, fun way to teach your dog to come. Tara loves this! We play this "game" on our sailboat by hiding on deck when Tara is below, and she runs to find me. This has transferred to Tara coming to me when we are snorkeling in the ocean. She will immediately turn and swim to me when I call her. Nola and Tara
